Mission

The Coalition for Quality Education’s mission is to make educational changes that will benefit every child in the Canadian public education system.

Changes are needed at the:

  • Political level
  • Election level
  • School board and trustee level
  • Program level

Education is now delivered in an inconsistent manner where processes and programming have been hijacked by school boards and trustees catering to special interest groups. Far too often, the most vulnerable are left unserviced while the select few are provided endless resources.

Make our elected officials accountable, their actions transparent and their actions serve the interests of all children.

Some of the changes our system needs to consider:

  • Develop a consistent program and method of delivering French education across our nation, province and boards by improving Core French, eliminating segregated program delivery, standardizing entry grades and percentage/methods.
  • Take back programming decisions either to the Ministry level or ultimately controlled at the Ministry level.
  • Amend Conflict of Interest rules to ensure trustees do not act based on ‘vested interest’. Conflicts cannot be defined just by ‘direct financial gain’.
  • Limit trustee terms to 2 consecutive terms by eliminating the ‘professional trustee who becomes savvy at hijacking process/programming.
  • Enforce election laws so that breaches result in immediate trustee removal.
  • Establish oversight ombudsman department for educational reviews/complaints.
  • Establish a comprehensive complaint and compliance department and process to ensure rules are followed by school boards and trustees.
  • Ensure Ministry oversight is provided unlike the often ‘canned responses’ to community issues and outrage.
  • Develop policies/procedures/process to assist school board personnel in handling their personnel and trustee actions.
  • Develop special education delivery that serves exceptionalities ensuring equitable access to services.
  • Enforce education election rules.
